Points of this tour

■It is a route that is easy for beginners to challenge, and touches a part of the history of Kumano Kodo

Oheji, which is about 120 km in length, continues to Nachi Katsuura, is a route where you can enjoy the open scenery where the sea and nature of the Kii Peninsula spreads out in front of you. In recent years, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has improved the walking environment and regenerated it as a modern pilgrimage road (*1), so it is easy for beginners to walk. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll while listening to the explanation of the local guide.

■It is a superb view spot that condenses “Kushimoto-likeness” and burns the magnificent nature to your eyes.

The observatory, which is quietly located on the route of Kumano Kodo and Oheji, is a hidden landmark known to those who know it.

From the place that goes up a little up the path, the magnificent Pacific Ocean, the coast to Kii Oshima, a strange rock group, Hashikui-iwa Rock, and the Kushimoto-ohashi Bridge, which condenses the uniqueness of Kushimoto. You can enjoy a panoramic view.

■Hashikui-iwa Rock, a natural monument to learn from the commentary of a local guide

In addition to looking at Hashikui-iwa Rock seen below from the observatory, you can also think about the greatness and wonder of nature while listening to the formation of about 40 large and small strange rocks and the legends related to Kobo Daishi by guides. Why not?

For those who want to feel closer to the sea of Hashikui-iwa Rock and Kushimoto, this is also a guide to explain Hashikui-iwa Rock, beach combing, and art pieces such as shells and driftwood found in beach combing to make original photo frames.
