Golden Week Event Information

Introduction of various events and experiences

1. Workshop for making Hakata Okiage, a traditional craft in Fukuoka

Completed with rabbits and Hakata on hagoita

We will hold a workshop where you can experience the making of Hakata Okiage, a traditional craft that has been handed down to Fukuoka and Hakata. In Hakata, "Oshie", which uses cloth and cotton, is called "Okiage". Oshie work, which takes a mold with cardboard or Japanese paper, and uses cotton or cloth to assemble it three-dimensionally on the cut parts, is attractive for the gorgeous fabric texture and unique to hand-drawn expression. This time, we will invite Hiromiko Shimizu, the third generation writer, who inherits the tradition of Hakata Okiage and continues production activities in Fukuoka City, and will hold a workshop where you can experience the charm while actually making it. You can not only experience local traditional crafts while traveling, but also bring back your own works as memories of your trip.
